Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that since the current government came to power, the loans of 14,34,482 farmers who had taken loans of up to Tk 10,000 across the country have been waived off along with interest till July 2026.
He gave this information in response to a written question from Md. Ruhul Amin, a member of the opposition party (Jamaat-e-Islami) from Chuadanga-2 constituency, in the National Parliament on Sunday (September 6, 2026).
He said that the government has waived off the loans of these farmers who had taken loans of up to Tk 10,000 along with interest and paid them the Tk 1,352.74 crore due to the banks.
The Finance Minister said that farmers from all upazilas of the country have received benefits under this loan waiver program.
Meanwhile, in response to another question regarding the number of taxpayers in Chuadanga district, the Finance Minister said that currently the number of taxpayers with TIN in the district is 72,463. Of these, 21,567 people filed returns in the 2025-26 tax year.
