The price of domestic onion has started declining in Phulbari market of Dinajpur on the news of onion import from India. The price of onion has come down by Tk 2 to 5 per kg in the wholesale market and by Tk 3 to 5 per kg in the retail market in three days.
On Monday (July 4, 2022) morning, the onion market in
Fulbari Municipal Market was visited. On Wednesday (June 29), the onion that
was sold in the wholesale market at Tk 35 to 36 per kg is being sold at Tk 27
to 29 per kg on Monday. It is being sold in the retail market at a price of Tk 30
to 32 per kg. Relief is returning among traders and buyers as prices fall.
Khandaker Mehedi Hasan Saju, who came to Hili Bazaar to buy
onions, said the price of onions has started falling. Three days ago I had to
buy it at Tk 40 per kg. Today that onion was found at Tk 32.
Shyamal Chandra, Montu Mia and Subrata Sarkar, onion
retailers in the Phulbari municipal market, said prices of a number of daily
commodities, including onions and garlic, depended on imports. At present, the
price has come down a lot due to the import of onions. Buyers are also buying
onions according to their needs.
Milon Mia, Kalukanta Dutt and Amjad Hossain, wholesale onion
traders of Phulbari Municipal Market, said that the price of onion has come
down in the market after hearing about the import of onion from India.
