Food Minister Afroza Khanam has said that with the increase in food production in the country, a big opportunity has been created for the food industry. She said that it is not enough to just increase production, but to produce safe and quality food products and process them properly and increase exports.
She said these things at the opening ceremony of the FoodPro International Expo on Thursday (September 10, 2026).
The Food Minister said that farmers are producing a lot of food in the country. Now these foods produced need to be processed better. This will meet the country's needs on the one hand, and on the other hand, exports will increase. Instead of focusing on more production, we should produce good and safe products, so that the acceptance of Bangladesh's food products in the global market increases further.
She said that the country's food industry will move forward further in the future with the support of the government's policy.
Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro said at the event that Bangladesh has made a lot of progress in food processing. This industry will play an important role in further enriching the country's economy.
Chairman of the Safe Food Authority Md. Shafiqul Islam said, "Not only should food production be increased, but also the value addition of products should be increased. Importance should also be given to diversifying products to increase exports."
It was informed at the opening ceremony that more than 200 brands from 27 countries have participated in this year's exhibition. The organizers are expecting more than 24,000 visitors to attend the three-day exhibition.
