Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has made it clear that the price of edible oil will not be increased suddenly without any verification. In view of the demands of the traders, the government will take a rational decision after considering the overall situation.

He said this in response to questions from journalists at the inauguration of a development project in Sylhet on Wednesday (September 30, 2026).

The current supply of bottled soybean oil in the market has slightly decreased, which has directly affected the general consumers. Taking this opportunity, the traders have once again made new proposals and calls to the government to increase the price of edible oil.

When attention was drawn to this issue, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said, "Even if the businessmen demand an increase in the price of edible oil, the government will take a decision after understanding and examining the situation."

In response to another question from journalists about the overall law and order situation in the country, the Commerce Minister said that the current government is very careful and is paying special attention to ensuring that the current law and order situation in the country does not have a negative impact on domestic and foreign investments.

Earlier in the morning, the Commerce Minister formally inaugurated the river bank defense work at Kanishail on the right bank of the Surma River in Sylhet Sadar under the project titled 'Development of the Surma-Kushiyara River Basin and Flood and Integrated Water Resources Management'.
