Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones will now be manufactured in a factory in Bangladesh. A Bangladeshi company called 'Sky Biz Limited' has taken the initiative to manufacture this high-tech drone for export. The company will sign an agreement with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority for the land of the RA drone factory on Thursday (October 3).
'Sky Biz' has planned to set up a factory inside the BEPZA Industrial Estate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar in Mirsarai Upazila of Chittagong to manufacture drones. Sky Biz will invest about 4.6 million US dollars to set up this factory on about two acres of land and start production of drones, which is about 5.5 billion taka in Bangladeshi currency.
Sky Biz officials said that they will make a total of 10 models of UAV. They expect the production of two models to start in January. If the factory is fully operational, drones worth 169 million or 169 million dollars will be exported from here annually. It is equal to about 2 thousand 300 crores in Bangladeshi currency.
Jaseem Ahmed is behind this initiative of making drones in Bangladesh. They have textile and garment manufacturing factories in Dhaka and Ishwardi EPZs. He has also invested in the ready-made garments industry. Apart from this, he is also one of the founders of EPZ-based industries Global Levels Bangladesh Limited (Spain-Bangladesh joint investment) and Jinki Global Textile Bangladesh Limited (China-Bangladesh joint investment).
Jaseem Ahmed said he is now investing in making UAVs with modern technology keeping in mind the future. According to him, this initiative represents many dreamers and confident youth. There is a huge demand for such drones in many countries of the world, including Europe and the United States.
He also said that initially, the company will develop high-performance rotary wing UAVs for firefighting. Simultaneously, vertical take-off and landing drones suitable for cinematography, mapping, and surveillance will be made.
Jaseem Ahmed said, their drones can mainly be used for civilian purposes such as pesticide spraying, firefighting, delivery services, and relief distribution and rescue operations. Jaseem Ahmed said that the proposal given to Bepza showed the target of manufacturing and exporting 7 thousand 314 drones a year.
BEPZA Executive Director (Public Relations) ASM Anwar Parvez told the media that they are going to agree with Sky Biz to lease the land for setting up the factory.
