Before Eid-ul-Adha, the prices of Eid-centric hot spices
have not gone up in the capital's markets on the contrary the prices of
cardamom have come down. However, the price of dried chilies has gone up. At
the same time, the price of cumin has also gone up. Besides, the prices of bay
leaves and coriander have also gone up.
Traders say the reason for not raising the price of
Eid-centric hot spices this time is that due to the global economic situation
and the floods, the sales have been much lower this time. On the other hand,
hot spices have been imported more. As a result, the price did not increase as
the supply exceeded the demand.
It has been found out that cardamom is now being sold at a
wholesale price of Tk 1,200 to Tk 2,200 per kg. A month ago, the price of
cardamom was Tk 1,400 to Tk 2,400 per kg. As a result, the price of cardamom
has come down to Tk 200 per kg.
Clove and cinnamon prices have remained stable. Cloves are
being sold at a wholesale price of Tk 1,040 to 1,060 per kg. Besides, a kg of
cinnamon is being sold at Tk 310 to Tk 390. On the other hand, the price of
cumin imported from India has increased slightly and is now being sold at Tk
385 to Tk 390. A few days ago it was Tk 380 to 385. In other words, the
wholesale price of cumin imported from India has increased by Tk 5 per kg.
However, cumin imported from Afghanistan is being sold at Tk 400 to 410 per kg
as before.
Moulvibazar trader Md Rubel said the price of any spice
except Indian cumin has not increased this time before Eid. He said there is an
increased demand for hot spices before Eid-ul-Adha. This increases the price a
little. However, this time the sales are very low. This is the lowest sales in
the last 10-15 years. Our idea is to sell less this time around due to floods
in different parts of the country and the global economic situation.
Although the price of hot spices has not increased, the
price of dried chilies has gone up. Domestic dried chilies are being sold at Tk
280 to Tk 350 per kg, which was between Tk 220 and Tk 280 a few days ago. The
imported dried chillies are being sold at Tk 350 to Tk 420 per kg, which was Tk
300 to Tk 380 a few days ago. Hajipara businessman said. Afzal said the
wholesale price of dried chilies has gone up for 10 days. It has increased by more
than Tk 50 per kg. However, it seems that the price will not increase before
Eid. Kawran market trader said. Raju said the supply of dried chilies imported
in the market is low. Domestic dried chilies are also less in the market. Due
to this the price has increased a little. However, this extra price of dried
pepper will not last long.
The prices of bay leaves and money have gone up a bit. Tamarind
leaves are being sold at Tk 180 to Tk 200 per kg, which was between Tk 150 and
Tk 170 a few days ago. And coriander is being sold at Tk 140 to 170, which was
between Tk 120 to 150 a few days ago. Buyers are happy that there has been no
instability in spice prices before Eid.
