Pellet Storage Plant in Portugal Nears Completion

Pellet Storage Plant in Portugal Nears Completion

The pellet storage plant currently under construction in Figueira da Foz (Portugal) is now approaching its final assembly stage. This new biomass storage facility has been designed to optimize the handling, protection, and long-term preservation of pellets as a solid biofuel, further strengthening our presence in the Portuguese market and expanding our footprint in the biomass energy sector.

Engineered for Performance and ATEX Safety

The installation includes two hopper steel silos, model 04.58/10, specifically engineered for industrial pellet storage applications. Built with high-strength materials and designed in accordance with strict European standards, the project combines operational efficiency with enhanced safety in ATEX-classified environments.

Each pellet storage silo incorporates the following technical features:

*Reinforced roof, designed to support the installation of dedicated pneumatic pellet loading equipment.

*Complete pneumatic loading systems, including customized adaptations and piping to ensure safe, efficient bulk handling of biomass.

*Explosion vent panels are installed on both the roof and the silo shell. These safety devices allow the controlled release of overpressure and flames in the event of a deflagration, protecting the structure and minimizing risk when storing combustible materials such as pellets.

*ATEX-certified overpressure and vacuum relief valves, ensuring compliance and operational safety in explosive atmospheres.

*Seismic reinforcements, compliant with UBC (1997), are designed to withstand local seismic conditions (up to 0.11g acceleration).

*Spiral staircases over 17 meters in height, providing safe and reliable access for inspection and maintenance operations.

High-Performance Corrosion Protection

The silos are manufactured using ProMag-coated steel, a zinc, aluminum, and magnesium alloy that delivers up to 10 times greater corrosion resistance than standard galvanized steel. This advanced coating enhances the long-term durability of the biomass storage plant while reducing environmental impact through lower zinc consumption.

Advanced Biomass Storage Solutions

This pellet storage plant represents another step forward in our commitment to delivering reliable, efficient, and safe biomass storage solutions tailored to the real operational demands of the energy industry.

The project scope includes not only the design and supply of the steel silos, but also technical assistance and on-site assembly supervision, ensuring precise execution at every stage of the installation.

The facility will soon be fully operational, supporting efficient pellet storage and handling in Portugal’s growing biomass energy market.
